Dr. Diabetic retinopathy, which is one of the microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus, is a disease causing loss of vision. It is the most frequent reason of vision loss in working age group. With appropriate therapy, loss of vision can be prevented in 90% of the patients. For the early diagnosis of the retinopathy, at least biannual screening examination is a wise approach. Regulation of hyperglycemia, hypertension and hyperlipidemia has a positive effect on incidence and progression of DR. Drugs like reninangiotension blockers, anti-aggregants, growth hormone inhibitors and protein kinase C beta inhibitors have scientifically proven positive effects, yet there is no drug which is routinely used in daily practice and advised in the international guidelines.
