Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology, İzmir/TURKEY Apart from successful medical treatment of diabetic macular edema, patient's life quality after treatment and how patient assesses the benefits of treatment should be evaluated as well. There are many international evaluation criteria in development in this field striving for objectivity as much as possible. In addition, costs of diabetic maculopathy treatment are increasing both for the patient and the institutions and critical assessments are required for reimbursement. In this respect, linking life quality and costs are becoming significantly important to evaluate treatment's utility value to individuals, families and society.
