3As. Dr., Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Göz Kliniği, İstanbul - TÜRKİYE Purpose: To examine the choroidal thickness in patients with adult onset vitelliform macular dystrophy
Materials and Methods: Data of patients who were diagnosed with adult onset vitelliform macular dystrophy (AOVMD) (Study group) were evaluated for demographic characteristics, complaints, best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and scans of spectral domain optical coherence topography (SD-OCT). Measurements of central macular thickness (CMT), temporal parafoveal choroidal thickness (TPFCT), subfoveolar choroidal thickness (SFCT) and nasal parafoveal choroidal thickness (NPFCT) were performed with enchanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography (EDI-OCT). Height and base width of the macular lesions were measured in patients with AOVMD. Control group included healthy participants. Measurement data of the patients and healthy participants were compared .
Results: Study group included 36 eyes of 18 patients (11 female, 7 male, mean age: 61.3 ± 10.2years) with AOVMD and control group included 50 eyes of 25 healthy participants (15 female, 10 male, mean age: 61.4±6.5), (p=0.992). Mean TPFCT, SFCT and NPFCT were 266±31 versus 248±71, 272±30 versus 233±28 and 264±30 versus 235±31 ?m (p=0.000, p=0.00, p=0.000) in the study versus control groups, respectively. Average height and base width of the lesions were 149±112 and 796±507 ?m, respectively. The height and base width of the lesions were negatively correlated with BCVA (r=-0.435; p=0.008; r =-0.563; p=0.000), respectively.
Conclusion: In patients with AOVMD, TPFCT, SFCT and NPFCT were thicker than healthy participants. BCVA had a negative correlation with height and base width of lesion of AOVMD.
