Twentysix eyes of 24 patients aged between 24-88 who had undergone extracapsular cataract extraction are icluded in this study. In the postoperative 4th-6th weeks, the patients were given 5 ml. 10 % fluorescein in 125 ml. fruit juice orally, after the regular ophthalmological examination. Starting from the 15th minute, fundus fluorescein angiography images were recorded digitally, every 10 minutes till the 60th minute.
Although there was clinically significant macular edema in only one patient before the procedure, after the oral fundus fluorescein angioraphy cystoid macular edema in five eyes and in one patient optic disc staining were recorded.
Oral fundus fluorescein angioraphy which does not require injection is an easy and reliable method to assess early diagnosis of cystoid macular edema after cataract extraction and this method can be routinely used.
