5Doç. Dr., Tepecik Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Göz Hastalıkları Kliniği, İzmir - TÜRKİYE Aim: This study aimed to investigate the fundus fi ndings in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and to compare them with those of healthy reproductive-age women volunteers.
Materials and Methods: The study included 50 eyes of 50 women (Group 1) with PCOS and 50 eyes of 50 healthy women (Group 2). In all subjects, the RNFL and choroidal thickness measurements were done using spectral domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) .Correlations between serum hormone (östradiol and testosteron) levels and observed fi ndings were also investigated.
Results: The mean age of group 1 was 27 ± 4,18 years (min:19, max: 30) and group 2 was 26,4± 3,78 years (min:18, max:30). In PCOS group the average RNFL thickness in all quadrants except temporal quadrant (p=0.572) were higher than that of the control group. Mean subfoveal choroidal thickness in group 1 was 407,54±45,56 ?m and in group 2 was 320,72±26,12 ?m. Mean values of choroidal thickness was signifi cantly higher in the PCOS group (p=0.001). Serum östradiol level was moderately correlated with the choroidal thicknesses (r=+0.539). To evaluate the correlations between östradiol level and RNFL, the highest correlation was in RSLTn (r:0,502) and RSLTin (r: 0,566). Serum free testosteron levels were moderately correlated with choroidal thickness (r=+0.664) . Serum testosteron levels were weakly correlated with RSLTt, RSLTst, RSLTsn, RSLTit and moderately correlated with RSLTin and RSLTn.
Conclusion: PCOS leads to physiological and structural changes in the eye. Choroidal as well as RNFL thickness measurements were increased in patient with PCOS.
