2Yrd. Doç. Dr., Karabük Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, İç Hastalıkları, Karabük, Türkiye Purpose: Evaluation of retinal nerve fi ber (RNF) and ganglion cell inner plexiform layer (GC-IPL) thickness of iron defi ciency anemia patients.
Material and Methods: 40 right eye of women patients who were diagnosed with iron defi ciency anemia in the internal medicine department of our hospital were set as study group while 40 right eye of healthy women were set as control group. Superior (SRNF), nazal (NRNF), inferior (IRNF) and temporal retinal nerve fi ber (TRNF) analysis together with average GC-IPL complex thickness values were measured with optic coherence tomography.
Results: Mean age of study group was 35,37±5,36 years while this value was 34,30±2,53 of the control group (p=0.255).Of study group, SRNF, NRNF, IRSL, TRNF and GC-IPL valueas were 117,50±20,62 ?, 72,75±13,78 ?, 129,88±21,24 ?, 66,93±10,16 ? and 85,73±6,28?, respectively, while corresponding values of control group were 144,86±20,48 ?, 90,61±12,94 ?, 143,64±11,96 ?, 92,19±12,65 ? and 92,28±3,74 ?, respectively, representing statistically significancy for all (p=0.001).
Conclusion: In the iron defi ciency group, in all quadrants reduction of retinal nerve fi bers and ganglion inner cell plexiform layer thickness were detected.
