3Asist. Dr., Tepecik Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Göz Hastalıkları, İzmir, Türkiye Purpose. To evaluate the clinical and optical coherence tomography (OCT) findings in late and acute stage Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease.
Methods. Six patients with VKH disease were analyzed retrospectively betweeen January 2005- June 2016. All patients underwent routine ophthalmological examination, Fluorescein Anjiography, OCT and ocular ultrasonography. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) test was used for statistical analysis.
Results. 4 female and 2 male were accepted to the study. The mean duration of follow-up was calculated as 60±34.7 months (ranging between 4 to 108 months). The initial best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 0.07 (ranging between 0.016-0.5). The median value of visual acuity after treatment was found as 0.25 (range 0.03-0.8). Statistically signifi cant increase was found in BCVA compared to the levels before the treatment (p = 0.004). The OCT fi ndings in acute period were serous retinal detachment, hyper-refl ective dot reflexes in outer retinal layers, disappearance of the Cone outer segmnet termination (COST) line and the inner segment/outer segment. In a case, it was observed that the IS / OS junction rebuilted after the acute period. The OCT fi ndings in the late-stage VKH eyes were localized to the outer retina. The findings included thickening of the retina pigment epithelium layer, breakage or disappearance of the COST line,and/or (IS/OS) junction.
Conclusions: OCT examination can be used in diagnosis, detection of structural changes and follow up of the VKH disease.
