RETINAL DETACHMENT FOLLOWING RETINAL VEIN BRANCH OCCLUSION
İstanbul Üniversitesi, Göz Hastalıkları Arş.Mer.
Purpose : To present the clinical course and the results of vitreous surgery in the retinal detachments following retinal vein branch occlusion in a retrospective manner.Method : Clinical data of 4 cases who had vitreoretinal surgery for the treatment of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment following retinal vein branch occlusion were retrospectively reviewed.
Results : The rhegmatogenous retinal detachment was diagnosed preoperatively in 2 patients and peroperatively in 2 patients because of existence of vitreous hemorrhage .Three patients had vitreoretinal surgery combined with circumferential scleral buckling and one patient had only vitrectomy. Detachment was originated from the tears that were developed from tractional factors located in the occluded vessel area. Retinal reattachment was achieved with one operation in 3 cases and two operations in 1 case. Visual acuity remained under 0.1 in all cases.
Conclusion : Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment may develop after retinal vein branch occlusion, Vitreous surgery has an important role in the treatment of the retinal detachments following retinal vein branch occlusion, because of the localization of the tears and association of vitreous hemorrhage.
