REMOVAL OF SILICONE OIL AND EPIMACULAR PROLIFERATION FROM EYES FOLLOWING VITREORETINAL SURGERY
SSK Ankara Göz Hastanesi 2. Göz Kliniği
This study investigated the redetachment rate following silicone oil removal when combined with removal of epimacular proliferation(EMP) which is localised form of proliferative vitreoretinopathy(PVR). Eighteen consecutive eyes of 15 patients had been performed complicated retinal detachment surgery before underwent removal of silicone oil and EMP. The mean follow-up time was 10.7 months postoperatively. The retina remained attached in 14 (78%), with functional improvement in vision in 13 (72%) of the eyes. Visual acuity of 20/200 or better was obtained in 8 (44%) of the eyes. These results suggest that removal of EMP and silicone oil does not increase the additional risk of redetachment.
