Treatment of Cystoid Macular Edema with Angiographic Leakage in Retinitis Pigmentosa Associated with CNGB1 Mutation Using Intravitreal Dexamethasone Implant (Ozurdex): A Case Report

Etlik City Hospital, Ophthalmology, Ankara, Türkiye DOI : 10.37845/ret.vit.2026.35.26 This report presents a case of angiographically leaky cystoid macular edema (CME) in a patient with CNGB1-associated retinitis pigmentosa (RP), detailing the anatomical and functional response to intravitreal dexamethasone implant treatment. The CME progressed despite topical carbonic anhydrase inhibitor and intravitreal anti–vascular endothelial growth factor therapy. Following bilateral intravitreal dexamethasone implant (Ozurdex®) injections, visual acuity improved, and CME regressed on optical coherence tomography. Recurrences responded to repeated dexamethasone implantation, with stable intraocular pressure during follow-up. This case illustrates that an intravitreal dexamethasone implant may be an effective treatment option for angiographically leaky CME in CNGB1-associated RP. Recognition of fluorescein angiographic leakage may help identify a vasogenic, steroid-responsive CME subtype in this genetically defined patient group.
