FOCAL PHOTOCOAGULATION TREATMENT IN FOCAL DIABETIC MACULOPATHY
İzmir Atatürk Eğitim Hastanesi Göz Kliniği
75 patients diagnosed as focal diabetic maculopathy in our retina clinic between the dates 20.04.1994 - 20.04.1996 were treated with argon laser photocoagulation. All were type 11 diabetes mellitus patients, with an average diabetic period of 12 years.Leaking microaneurysms located 500 micron away from the foveal center were photocoagulated with argon laser.
After an average follow up of 11 months, 30 eyes (26.3%) had a recovery of vision, 66 eyes (58%) had stabilization and 18 eyes (15,7%) had a decrease in vision.
The statistical success of treatment was remarkably decreased due to patients long diabetes mellitus duration, high blood sugar levels, high blood glycolized heamoglobin levels and especially due to systemic hypertension. There were no important complications observed due to treatment. Keywords : Diabetic Maculopathy, Argon Laser, Type II Diabetes Mellitus
