EFFECT OF PANRETINAL PHOTOCOAGULATION ON OCULAR BLOOD FLOW IN PATIENTS WITH DIABETIC RETINOPATHY
1OMÜ Tıp Fak. Göz Hst. ABD.2OMÜ Tıp Fak. Radyodiyagnostik ABD. Purpose : To evaluate blood-flow parameters in eyes with diabetic retinopathy after panretinal photocoagulation.
Methods : Hemodynamic parameters were evaluated by color Doppler imaging in 36 eyes with diabetic retinopathy without treatment. Peak systolic, end-diastolic, and mean arterial velocities were measured in the central retinal artery, short posterior ciliary arteries, central retinal vein and the ophthalmic artery.
Results : No statistically significant differences were found between treated and untreated eyes, but panretinal photocoagulation led to a marked reduction of ocular blood flow velocitiy especially in the central retinal artery and short posterior ciliary arteries.
Conclusion:Our data indicate that argon laser photocoagulation may produce a decreased flow velocity in the ocular vasculature. Keywords : Diabetic retinopathy, Ocular blood flow, Photocoagulation
