1SB Dr. Lütfi Kırdar Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, 2.Göz Kliniği Kartal/İstanbul, 2Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi, Tıp Fak, Göz Hast. Anabilim Dalı/Isparta Purpose: To investigate the effect of vitrectomy on visual prognosis in diabetic; diffuse and / or cystoid macular edema with posterior hyaloid traction.
Method: Thirty eyes of the 14 male and 10 female diabetic patients; with diffuse and / or cystoid macular edema with posterior hyaloid traction had pars plana vitrectomy. The mean follow up was 9 months.
Results: Macular edema became better in 10 eyes and did not change in 20 eyes in the post-operative period. Visual acuity increased in 9 eyes (30 %), did not change in 20 eyes (67 %) and decreased in 1 eyes (3 %). Complication percentages were found as; retinal tear 13 %, retinal hemorrhage 24 %, macular hole 3 %, lens opacification 16 %.
Conclusion: Pars plana vitrectomy with pealing of pealing of posterior hyaloid is benefical in diabetic patients with diffuse and/or cystoid macular edema with posterior hyaloid traction. Keywords : Diabetic macular edema, Pars plana vitrectomy, Posterior hyaloid
