3GATA Haydarpaşa Eğitim Hastanesi Radyoloji Servisi, İstanbul, Uzm. Dr. Purpose: To investigate the changes in haemodynamic parameters in the orbital arteries by Color Doppler Ultrasonography (CDU) and to determine useful parameter(s) in the early recognition of ocular Behçet’s disease
Materials and Methods: Study group included 104 eyes[30 eyes with ocular involvement (ocular Behçet’s-OB), 34 eyes without ocular involvement (non-ocular Behçet’s- NOB) and 40 normal eyes in control group (CG)]. Ocular blood flow velocities (OBFV) were obtained from ophthalmic artery (OA), central retinal artery (CRA) and posterior ciliary artery (PCA) by CDU, pulsatility index (PI) and resistivity index (RI) were calculated. T test with Bonferroni’s adjustment was used in statistical analysis.
Results: OBFV’s significantly decreased in ocular compared to NOB and CG (p<0.0001). They were almost equal to or slightly different in NOB from CG for CRA. PI’s of OA and PCA in OB and NOB groups were higher than CG, and more evident in OB group (p< 0.03). In OB group, RI’s were higher than CG for all arteries, however higher only in OA when comparing with NOB(p<0.0001).
Conclusion: There are significant reductions in the OBFV’s in the cases with Behçet’s disease and they are more evident in case of ocular involvement. Particularly, end-diastolic velocity and pulsatility index are useful parameters in the recognition of ocular Behçet’s disease.
