Materials and Methods: 30 patients with AMD and 29 healthy subjects as a control group were included in the study. Serum fibrinogen, hemoglobin, hematocrit, lipid and platelet counts were determined in two groups.
Results: Serum fibrinogen level was 364.7±70.7 mg/dl in AMD group and 319.6±54.2 mg/dl in the control group. Fibrinogen levels were significantly higher in AMD group compared with control group (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between two groups for the other parameters (p>0.05).
Conclusion: Serum fibrinogen level is higher in patients with AMD. This can play a role in the development of AMD. Keywords : Fibrinogen, age related macular degeneration
