Surgery of Macular Hole
İstanbul Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Göz Hastalıkları A.D., İstanbul, Prof. Dr.
Surgery for macular holes began in early 90’s with considerably anatomic and functional success. Standart pars plana vitrectomy, removal of posterior hyaloid and internal limitant membrane, internal tamponade with long lasting gases is therapy of choise. Anatomical success of 90-100% and visual improvment of 2-4 Snellen lines is reported. In special cases there can be a need for internal tamponede with silicone oil. There is no need for any adjuvants during the surgery and visualisation of the internal limitant membrane with any dye or other assisting substance is a matter of surgeons preference.
