4Ankara Numune Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, 2.Göz Kliniği, Ankara, Asist. Dr. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the surgical results of macular holes with retinal detachment.
Materials and Methods: Thirteen eyes with macular holes associated with retinal detachment were included to the study. Pars plana vitrectomy with 3 port was performed in all eyes. Perfluoropropane gas was used as internal tamponade in 10 eyes. Silicone oil was used in 3 eyes. Scleral buckling surgery was performed in 6 eyes.
Results: Macular holes were closed in 12 eyes. Macular hole was not closed in one eye due to subretinal fibrosis. Visual acuity was p+p+-0.05 Snellen lines preoperatively and 2mps -0.4 Snellen lines postoperatively. Visual acuity increased in 11 eyes and did not change in 2 eyes.
Conclusion: Pars plana vitrectomy with gas and silicone oil tamponade is an effective method for treating macular holes associated with retinal detachment. Keywords : Macular hole, retinal detachment, pars plana vitrectomy
