Two Cases of Anterior Ischaemic Optic Neuropathy Associated with Interferon-Alpha Treatment

Dr. Interferons are natural glicoprotein structured citokins used in mainly chronic viral hepatitis, solid tumors and hematological malignancies, they are used in wide range of other indications. Various sistemic and ocular adverse effects occus during interferon treatment. However, adverse effetcs are mild but sometimes serious even fatal. In this paper, we introduce two cases who are on interferon α and ribavirin treatment with choronic hepatitis-c indication, but those who have developed single sided blindness during this treatment and resulted in optic neuropathy at follow up examinations. After stoping of interferon alpha treatment, clinical symptomps regressed but optic atrophy developed in both cases. Keywords : Interferon, anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy
