Purpose: To assess the efficiency of pneumatic retinopexy in rhegmatogenous retinal detachments.

Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study, medical record review was conducted of patients who underwent primary PR between 2011 and 2014 . The follow-up period was at least 6 months. anatomical success, postoperative visual acuity and complications were evaluated.

Results: A total of 21 cases were included in the study. Reattachment of the retina was achieved in 66.6% (14 of 21 cases) of cases with pneumatic retinopexy and and 100% of cases after additional surgical procedures. The mean preoperative and postoperative visual acuity measurements were 0.99±0.98 (logMAR) ve 0.26±0.18 (logMAR), respectively (Wilcoxon, p=0.001). The postoperative complications were new breaks (2 cases), macular hole (1 case) and proliferative vitreoretinopathy (1 case).

Conclusion: Because pneumatic retinopexy is a simple, low cost and minimally invasive surgical procedure, it is a preferable technique for selective retinal detachment cases. Keywords : Pneumatic retinopexy, retinal detachments
