ORBITAL HEMODYNAMIC CHANGES IN ANTERIOR NONARTERITIC ISCHEMIC OPTIC NEUROPATHY
1Ç.Ü.T.F. Göz Has. ABD.2Ç.Ü.T.F. Radyodiagnostik ABD. In the present study 21 patients with anterior nonarteritic ischcmic optic neuropathy and 21 age-matched healty volunteers were studied with color Doppler imaging. The maximum systolic velocity, minimum diastolic velocity, mean velocity, resistivity index and pulsatility index of central retinal artery, short posterior ciliary arteries and ophthalmic artery were determined. In the patient group, no difference was detected between the affected eyes and fellow eyes. In the patient proup, a statisically significant decrease was observed in the minimum diastolic velocity and mean velocity of the short posterior ciliary arteries, when compared with controls. A statistically significant increase was detected in the resistivity index of central retinal artery, short posterior ciliary arteries and ophthalmic artery in the patients. These initial results confirmed that orbital hemodynamic changes play a rola in the etiopathogenesis of anterior nonartcrilic ischcmic optic neuropathy, and color Doppler Imaging can be used as a diagnostic tool in these cases.
