Results Of Perfluorocarbon Liquids In Treatment Of Complicated Retinal Detachments
SSK Ankara Hastanesi 2.Göz Kliniği
30 cases of complicated retinal detachment are operated using perfluorocarbon liquids. 6 of the eyes had giant retinal tears and 6 were traumatic tractional retinal detachment. 4 of the eyes were pseudophakic retinal detachment, 10 were aphakic, 3 were phakic and one had intravitreal dislocation of crystalline lens together with retinal detachment. One of the traumatic retinal detachment case had intraocular foreign body. Different degrees of proliferative vitreoretinopathies were present in all eyes. Liquid perfluorocarbons are introduced into all eyes intraoperatively and were left in 13 eyes for 3 weeks. Intraoperatively reattachment was maintained in 29 eyes. Postoperative complications included cataract in 4, choroidal effusion in 2, vitreous haemorrhage in 1, recurrent retinal detachment with proliferative vitreoretinopathy in 3 and phitisis bulbi in one of the eyes. Postoperative visual acuity was better than 20/200 in 13 cases (%43.3) and between 10/200 - 20/200 in 7 cases (%23.3). The benefits, complications and disadvantages of the procedure are discussed.
