Postoperative Endoptralmitis: Etiopathogenesis And Diagnostic Considerations
SB Ankara Hast. Göz Kliniği
Most cases of endophthalmitis (70%) occur as a complication of ocular surgery. These cases represent a disease that exists in a large spectrum. Patient's own periocular flora is the source of infection in many cases and some risk factors play a role in the development of these infections. Coagulase-negative staphylococci are the most commonly isolated organisms and rapid diagnostic tests like direct examination of a stained smear are valuable in early diagnosis. Vitreous sample is by far the most important source to obtain cultures.
